When is the Right Time?
The question that is often asked whenever it’s time to make a life-changing decision. When is the right time? When should I get married? When should I start investing? When should I start a side business? When should I start having kids? We can prepare all we want but life doesn’t always go according to plan. I believe the right time is unique for every individual here on earth. We all were given different fingerprints for a reason. So why compare your life to someone else’s? One’s path towards success may not work for another, but that’s the beauty of life. We have to figure it out on our own.
Talking with friends and reading through social media posts I notice that we live in a competitive society. Have you ever told a person something you recently accomplished and they responded with something like “Well I did this… blah blah etc..” instead of just congratulating you? Why does it have to be that way? Why can’t certain individuals appreciate someone else’s joy without feeling insecure about themselves? Besides, you don’t know the half of what they went through to accomplish those wins. You only see the end result, but not the years of struggle to get there.
It’s perfectly fine to set expectations and goals, but make sure that your goals are personal and is not because of what society says you should have. “You should be married and have a house by 25”, “You should move out your mama’s house by 18”, “You need a foreign car”, “You should dress like this” I can go on all day lol. But who cares what other people says. Are they putting food on your table? Paying your bills? Clothes on your back? Nope so live your own life. Just because you’re not married, working in your career, have your own home, fancy car by a certain age does not mean you’re a failure. Maybe your blessings are coming in due time.
There are many successful people who started out young and there are many who are late bloomers. William Hewlett was 25 when he founded HP and Sam Walton was 44 when he founded Walmart. Almost 20 years apart, but they both became very successful billionaires. Check out the pics below to view the age disparity between several founders.
Comparison is the thief of joy. If you’re always comparing your life to others you will never be satisfied. Focus on your own path and come up. Temporary sacrifices can lead to long-term gains. Take calculated risks, strive for greatness, but most importantly, embrace your unique journey. Timing is everything and when your time is right, you will know.
